Low Impact Development (LID)
- Course Number: C1030
- Credits: 15 hours
- Instructor: Ellen Huang, PE
- Price: $150
Course Outline
Low Impact Development (LID) is an approach to land development and stormwater management. The purpose is to mimic the site's natural hydrology by utilizing methods that allow rainwater to infiltrate into the ground. LID can be applied to new developments, urban retrofits, and revitalization projects. In this course, you will learn various techniques that provide temporary retention areas, increase infiltration, allow for nutrient (pollutant) removal, and control the release of stormwater into adjacent waterways.
At the end of this course, there will be a multiple-choice, open-book quiz designed to enhance your understanding of the course material.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, the student will:
- Be able to encourage conservation measures;
- Be able to promote impact minimization techniques such as impervious surface reduction;
- Be able to provide for strategic runoff timing by slowing flow using the landscape;
- Be able to use an array of integrated management practices to reduce and cleanse runoff;
- Be able to advocate pollution prevention measures to reduce the introduction of pollutants to the waterways.
