Planning & Designing Resilient Data Centers
- Course Number: C1048
- Credits: 4 hours
- Instructor: Ellen Huang, PE
- Price: $40
Course Outline
This course gives engineers and architects a structured, end-to-end method for planning, designing, and standing up small-to-mid-size on-prem or co-located data centers. You’ll translate business needs into design drivers, capture user and regulatory requirements, validate physical constraints, specify power/cooling/fire protection, select servers/storage/cabling/switching, choose network topologies, and author a management plan spanning deployment, repositories, identity/access management, automation, logging, and data protection.
At the end of this course, there will be a multiple-choice, open-book quiz designed to enhance your understanding of the course material.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, the student will:
- Be able to elicit business design drivers and convert them into actionable technical requirements;
- Be able to evaluate physical space constraints for power, cooling, floor layout, and fire suppression;
- Be able to specify server/storage options, cabling, switching, and an appropriate network topology; and
- Be able to author a data center management plan covering deployment, identity/access management, automation, logging, and data loss prevention.
