This course delves into America's unique social, political, and cultural environment that fosters technological innovation, from Silicon Valley's vibrant startup culture to the academic freedom that drives groundbreaking research. We will examine how leading companies like Nvidia, OpenAI, and Meta have set benchmarks in artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities and discover the critical role played by immigrants in shaping AI development. In addition, students will gain insights into the strengths and strategies of major global AI competitors—China, the EU, and Canada—and understand the unmatched engineering prowess of American AI.
