The Essence of Building Technology
- Course Number: G1037
- Credits: 1 hours
- Instructor: Helen Chen, Ph.D., PE
- Price: $10
Course Outline
This course, inspired by Edward Allen's landmark 2006 keynote speech, challenges conventional approaches to architectural education and building technology. It invites architects and engineers to rethink the relationship between design and technical disciplines by focusing on the fundamental principle: "Get the form right, and the rest is easy." Participants will explore the concept of integrating form with technical requirements, using real-world examples from acoustics, HVAC, materials, and structural design. The course will provide practical strategies for bridging the gap between design studios and technical courses, aiming to foster a holistic approach to architectural education. By the end of this course, attendees will gain valuable insights into how mastering building technology can elevate the design process, resulting in better architecture and enhanced learning experiences for future generations.
At the end of this course, there will be a multiple-choice, open-book quiz, which is designed to enhance your understanding of the course material.
