Course Outline
This course provides professional engineers and land surveyors with in-depth knowledge and practical guidance on the selection, installation, and documentation of survey markers and monumentation. Based on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ standards, the course covers horizontal and vertical control, boundary markers, and structural deformation monitoring. Participants will learn how to develop a comprehensive monumentation plan, select appropriate site locations, ensure monument stability, and adhere to National Spatial Reference System (NSRS) standards. The course emphasizes the importance of stable and accurate monumentation in civil and military projects to prevent costly survey errors during the design, construction, and maintenance phases.
At the end of this course, there will be a multiple-choice, open-book quiz designed to enhance your understanding of the course material.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, the student will:
- Be able to select appropriate survey markers and monument types based on site conditions;
- Be able to install and document horizontal and vertical control monuments accurately;
