Course Outline
Steel, an alloy of iron with about 1% carbon, is one of the world’s most essential engineering materials. It is fundamental to every aspect of our lives, from giant buildings and bridges to the humble tinplated steel can that preserves food. The worldwide annual crude steel production reached just over 1.8 billion tons in 2018. This course focuses on the history, development, and applications of steel. You will learn about the people who made significant contributions to steelmaking technologies and the major milestones in the development of various types of steel. In addition, you will get to know the current trend in the steel industry.
At the end of this course, there will be a multiple-choice, open-book quiz designed to enhance your understanding of the course material.
