NFPA 1142, Standard on Water Supplies for Suburban and Rural Firefighting, provides a method to determine the minimum water supply needed for structural firefighting in areas where municipal-type fire protection water systems are not available or are inadequate. This guideline focuses on (1) calculating the required water supply volume and (2) selecting the minimum water delivery rate using NFPA 1142 Table 4.6.1. Final requirements are subject to approval by the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
