The Engineer's Playbook for Managing Time, Meetings, and Multitasking (Timed and Monitored)
- Course Number: P1015T
- Credits: 2 hours
- Instructor: Ellen C. Huang, PE
- Price: $20
Course Outline
Engineers rarely struggle because they “don’t work hard enough.” They struggle because technical work arrives in bursts, dependencies are unclear, meetings fragment focus, and quality expectations are high. This course provides a practical, engineering-style time management system: define outcomes, decompose work into executable steps, protect deep-focus time, control interruptions, and build repeatable workflows using checklists and templates. Participants will learn how to plan realistically, reduce rework, run effective meetings, handle email/IM efficiently, and deliver more reliable results without longer hours.
At the end of this course, there will be a multiple-choice, open-book quiz designed to enhance your understanding of the course material.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, the student will:
- Be able to prioritize work using impact, risk, urgency, and dependency logic;
- Be able to build weekly and daily plans using time blocks and realistic buffers;
- Be able to reduce interruptions and meetings while maintaining strong communication; and
- Be able to prevent rework through assumptions tracking, templates, and review timing.
