New Jersey Engineers—Professional Ethics

Course Outline

This course provides a practical overview of the laws, regulations, and ethical duties that govern the practice of professional engineering in New Jersey. It explains the role of the New Jersey State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, summarizes the principal statutes and administrative rules that affect day-to-day practice, and highlights common forms of professional misconduct that can lead to disciplinary action. The course is intended to help licensees understand not only what the rules say, but also how those rules apply in ordinary professional situations such as practicing within one’s area of competence, supervising staff, signing and sealing documents, avoiding conflicts of interest, communicating with clients, responding to Board inquiries, and protecting the public when safety concerns arise. An open-book quiz is included at the end of the course to reinforce the material and support compliance with New Jersey’s ethics continuing education requirement.

This course meets the requirements set forth by the New Jersey Board of Professional Engineers to complete a minimum (2) hours of continuing education in professional practice ethics during each biennial renewal period.
