Introduction to Structural Design Using the 2021 IBC

Course Outline

As of January 2024, 16 U.S. states have adopted the 2021 International Building Code. This course provides architects and engineers with an in-depth understanding of the structural design requirements outlined in Chapter 16 of the 2021 International Building Code (IBC). Participants will gain insights into the minimum design loads, load combinations, and risk categories necessary for structural components to resist anticipated forces. The course also covers significant updates from previous IBC editions, ensuring attendees remain current with the latest standards for designing safe and resilient structures. Participants must have a copy of the 2016 edition of the ASCE 7 "Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures" to solve some of the quiz questions successfully.

At the end of this course, there will be a multiple-choice, open-book quiz, which is designed to enhance your understanding of the course material.
