Introduction to Wood Design (Timed & Monitored)

Course Outline

This course delves into the fundamental principles of wood engineering, focusing on the commercial applications of lumber, stress grades, fastening systems, and structural analysis. Based on Chapters 6 to 9 of the Wood Handbook: Wood as an Engineering Material, the course covers the grading, processing, and use of hardwood and softwood lumber, round timbers, and ties. It also explores the performance and selection of fasteners in wood construction and provides a comprehensive understanding of deformation, stress, and stability equations crucial for wood-based structures. Engineers and architects will gain practical insights into optimizing wood materials for construction, ensuring structural integrity, and selecting appropriate fastenings.

At the end of this course, there will be a multiple-choice, open-book quiz designed to enhance your understanding of the course material.
